As such, you will need to have metaphors or vision statements ready for whatever is given to you. With your table group, create at least one (or use what you already came up with) for each of our three plays:

Super Dead Man
Tradition
The Far-Away Princess

Metaphor Statement in Google Classroom

Metaphor Statement

For the play you have chosen to design costumes for, write out a metaphor statement as a PARAGRAPH. Beware of plot summary, thematic responses, or your personal feelings toward the play!

Process example:
Design metaphor: "Sweeney's desire for revenge leads him down a dark tunnel of inhumanity."

Design elements inspired by the metaphor:
- Line: thick, hard, strong
- Shape: angular, tall
- Form: boxed, tight
- Space: deep yet narrow, cramped
- Texture: rough, uncomfortable
- Color: dark, rusty

Metaphor statement derived from elements:
In Sweeney Todd, Sweeney's desire for revenge leads him down a dark tunnel of inhumanity. To depict this in my designs, the lines will be thick, hard and strong, with shapes and forms that box and constrict the characters. Sweeney wants to punish those that betrayed him, while the others try to break free of their constraints. Sweeney sees murder as the narrow path forward. Colors depicted will be dark, rusty, and blood-like. This design echoes the anxiety of traveling through a dark, cramped tunnel.
